 Prerequisites:  This course is principally intended for candidates who hold or will hold USCG Merchant Mariner’s Document and serve as or will serve as Tankerman PIC Barge (DL). Students are expected to be able to read and speak English. This course will also be of value to others serving as supervisory personnel in the industry or on vessels directly involved with the bulk shipment of dangerous liquids by water.
Course Details:

Applicants who successfully complete this course will satisfy the training requirementsof 46 CFR 13.301for a Tankerman-PIC (Barge) endorsement; AND complies with the standards set for renewal of a merchant mariner credential endorsed as Tankerman PIC (Barge) Dangerous Liquids.


           This course is principally intended for candidates who wish to obtain an endorsement to their US Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Credential as Tankerman PIC Barge(DL). It also prepares the mariner who has immediate responsibility for the loading, discharging and care in transit or handling of cargo. Ideally,students attending this course should have completed 5 loadings and 5 discharges as per 46 CFR 13.303(b)(1) including 2 commencements and 2 completions of loading as per 46 CFR 13.303(b)(2) and 2 commencements and 2 completions of discharge as per 46 CFR 13.303(b)(3). At least 2 of the qualifying transfers must have occurred not more than 5 years prior to the dateof application. Students also would have at least 60 days of service on one or more tank vessels certified to carry Dangerous Liquids and at least 6 months of closely related experience appropriate to the endorsement desired. In most cases, the students for each course will normally have backgrounds that meet or exceed the ideal entry standard requirements stated above.




Examination: In order to successfully complete this course, each candidate must obtain a passing grade on the examination. The student will be required to pass a 40 question multiple choice examination with a passing grade of 70%.
