Prerequisites:
Students entering this course should have attended STCW Basic Training within the previous five (5) years and possess a valid MMC. Students are expected to be able to read, speak, and communicate effectively in English. Students must meet the citizenship requirements listed in 46 CFR 10.221. Also, students are required to be in a physical condition to participate in all strenuous activities associated with the assessments to include keeping afloat for 1 minute without a life jacket.
Course Details:
The course will satisfy the requirements to provide evidence of having maintained the Basic Training continued standards of competence required by 46 CFR 11.302(e) and 12.602(e) for mariners who have previously held Basic Training endorsement under STCW Code Section A-VI/I but cannot meet the requirement for 1 year of sea service in last 5 years; STCW Code Section A-VI/I and Tables A-VI/1-1. 1-2. 1-3. and 1-4. as amended 2010, meeting the National Assessment Guidelines from NVIC 08-14 (CH-1) all Task.
Examination:
A written examination will be given requiring a minimum passing score of 70%. Assessments: The personal survival competencies will be demonstrated in water and the basic fire fighting competencies will be demonstrated at the fire field.
