This course provides training to mariners seeking their US Coast Guard license as Operator of Uninspected Passenger Vessels or Master 25, 50, or 100 Gross Registered Tons (GRT) upon Great Lakes, Inland and/or Near Coastal waters as specified in 46 CFR Part 11. It satisfies the classroom instruction and examination requirements of 46 CFR 11.201(j)(1) for original issuance, 46 CFR 10.227(e)(1)(iii) for renewal, and 46 CFR 10.227(i) for reissuance for any one the following endorsement and may not be used for any application transactions thereafter:
Master of less than 100 GRT, Near Coastal, or Great Lakes & Inland, or Inland Waters Or;
Master of less than 100 GRT, Near Coastal, raise in grade from OUPV Near Coastal Or;
OUPV or Mate of less than 100 GRT
The course is divided into sections covering the following topics:

2.0 Navigation Problems: Chart Plot
3.0 Navigation General
4.0 Deck General, Deck Safety and Environmental Protection

Prerequisites:
Students enrolling in this course are expected to be able to perform basic math, speak, write and understand English and operate a computer with an internet connection.
Enrollment:
Upon enrollment, you will have access to the online portion of the course. You can access the course my selecting “My Account” and navigating to the online courses you have purchased. Once you begin the course, you must spend a minimum of 47 hours on this portion before the online quiz will be available. You must pass the online quiz before you will be eligible to “finish” the course. Once you have completed the course hours, prepared for the examination and scheduled your exam and assessments, select the finish button on the online portion of the course.
When you register for a course at CMTI Online, you are responsible for the costs associated with registering for the course and transportation to the school for the written examination. Examinations:
In order to successfully complete this course, each candidate must obtain a grade percentage of not less than 90% on the Rules of the Road examination, a 70% on the Chart Plotting, Navigation General, and Deck General, Safety, and Environmental Protection examinations. The examinations are similar in format and content to the examinations given at the US Coast Guard Regional Examination Centers (RECs) and are accepted by the U.S. Coast Guard in lieu of their exams. You must call 804-642-0123 or email information@chesapeakemarineinst.com to schedule attendance for the in-person portion which includes a written examination(s) and/or practical assessments. You can schedule your in-person portion when you purchase the course. However, you must successfully complete the online portion prior to attending any in-person requirements.
You have 90 days from the date of enrollment to take your written examination. This must be done in person at CMTI.
